I've Still Got Time to Eat

Things have been crazy busy around here. Crazy, crazy busy. Not only is our wedding reception just 1.5 months away, I've also recently started my new job and have been helping my dad with his new business. So free time is non-existent and when it does just so happen to show up for a minute or two, we've been spending those minutes doing springtime things because Pennsylvania is FINALLY starting to warm up.

While I haven't been blogging as much, I have been making an effort to turn my diet back around. As I've said before, Pennsylvania threw me for a loop and not only did I gain 15 or so pounds, I also didn't care to do anything about it. That brief lapse in judgement has since faded (along with winter, which may have something to do with it) and now I'm stalwartly forging forward in weight loss. Here's some of the stuff I've been cooking up...

Lightly wilted kale with black beans, onions, peppers, garlic, and a slice of wheat bread from Le Pain Quotidien (we brought some back from our trip to DC!)

Quinoa with peas and shrimp

White bean and broccoli soup with quinoa (and more of that wheat bread!)

Steel cut oats made with almond milk, Greek yogurt, stevia, and a dollop of Justin's chocolate hazelnut butter (my favorite of all the butters)

A Fiesta Bowl/salad conglomeration topped with Greek yogurt and crushed pineapple...just looking at the picture makes me want to eat a vat of it.

Steel cut oats mixed with lemon Greek yogurt, toasted coconut (my best idea yet!), and almond milk.  And more of that hazelnut butter, natch.
Not pictured: all of the other shit I'm too ashamed to take pictures of because I shouldn't be eating it. This healthification is a struggle, let me tell you. But I'm enjoying the ride.

A (Brief) Return to DC

Last weekend we returned to DC with my sister and her fiance to see the cherry blossoms.

Unfortunately, the cherry blossoms were busy and couldn't bother to bloom in time. But we still had fun eating our favorite eats, visiting our favorite dashingly handsome marble-faced man, and participating in our favorite spring event, the Kite Festival.

Matchbox Pizza, forever in our hearts, even when we can't pig out on your deliciousness.

The Kite Festival was packed and string tensions were high.

I can never get enough pictures of this man.

The monuments were all right where we left them.

Not a cherry blossom (I don't think), but pretty just the same.
And we ended our trip with a leisurely dinner of tapas and sangria at La Tasca.
Thanks for the fun, DC I miss you (sometimes).
