Weekend Review 2/12/12

As I sit here and mentally review the weekend in preparation for writing the e-version, I can't help but think that, much like the deaths of Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, and Patrick Swayze, I won't remember anything about this weekend except for the exact moment that I found out an iconic person died. In this instance, Sam turned to me on the couch and said (unsympathetically, I might add) "Whitney Houston- dead." RIP Whitney... I-ey-I will always love you.

Quite fittingly, this weekend's weather was gloomy and so was I. I spent Friday at home after leaving work early on Thursday because I felt like death warmed over. Apparently my "allergies-or-cold?" illness is a once monthly thing. This time I was positive it was a cold, but by Sunday morning it was gone. Colds aren't normally a 2 day thing, are they? I mean, I'm glad it went away so quickly, but what IS it?

I sucked it up (along with some cold pills) and decided I'd enjoy my weekend anyway since it'd be 5 days until I got another one.

Saturday

Gloomy skies
Sam pondering life's ponderables...or just chewing on her thumbnail. Yeah, it's probably that.
We headed to Le Pain Quotidien for a late brunch (some would call that "lunch" but there was coffee involved, so I'm going with "late brunch") because I knew that would make me feel better and even if it didn't I'd at least get hummus out of the deal.

Oh, you know, just pouring coffee from my tiny little coffee pot into my gigantic coffee bowl.

Fancy foam for a fancy lady.

Hey, girl.

PS Bought myself that ring (amethyst on the left...no, your left) for my birthday. I love it like a child.

I ordered the special, a goat cheese, arugula, and roasted red pepper omelette.

The beloved hummus...I've missed it so.

Sam ordered the farmer's scramble.

A look inside my omelette OR staring into the face of perfection.
After brunch, we went across the street to check out Forever 21, somewhere I hadn't been since I was a lot younger than 21. Just as I suspected, it was full of cheap clothing boasting all of the current obnoxious trends smashed together. So, naturally, I bought a sweater. Fear not, it was neither neon-colored nor animal print. Then we went around the block to H&M so I could look at their selection of cheap clothing. I'm fairly certain I'd have to lose about 50 more pounds before fitting into anything there, but I did find a lovely one-size-fits-all scarf on the cheap.

After shopping we had to indulge Sam's cravings and get some frozen yogurt. Of course I had to be supportive and get some, too.

Samanth and whatever she got
After dessert, we headed home to spend the rest of the day/night napping, organizing my jewelry-making supplies, and watching DVDs. Can't keep a wild child down, ya know? Eventually we got hungry so I loosely followed a recipe (meaning I only had half of the ingredients) and whipped up some pineapple quinoa.

It was good. It probably would've been better with the rest of the ingredients, but I made it work. I also roasted some pineapple for dessert.

And followed that up with a glass of wine.
And a surprise appearance by the pomchi! (He was waiting for me to drop some rice...it never happened.)
Sunday

As I said, Sunday I woke up feeling much better, so it was time to get back to the gym. But first, a breakfast of sprouted grain bread with natural peanut butter, banana slices, and a drizzle of honey.

Then it was time to suit up. I tried to get Fatboy (aka Spencer) to come along by offering a lovely set of wrist bands to accompany his workout, but he said he already made plans with the couch and simple couldn't break them.

I made him try the wristbands on anyway.
After a lovely, grueling workout in which I did a warm-up mile on the elliptical and then 3 reps of 15+ on every machine I could get my hands on, we came home and got our crap around to head to hell. I mean the laundromat. While we waited for the clothes to cleanse, we went to Giant to pick up some stuff for dinner and grabbed little salads to hold us over until then.

Let me tell you, nothing improves a grocery store salad eaten in the laundromat parking lot like watching a man relieve himself on a building 10 yards away. Ahhh, I love our neighborhood.

Those ingredients I bought for dinner were later turned into babaganoush soup. Well, almost. I forgot the tahini, which I imagine is an integral part of the recipe. That said, it turned out great and I'll definitely be making it again.

Now I'm sitting here listening to Sam's commentary on everything that happens on the Grammy's. And WOOO ADELE WINS ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!...and talks about her snot. God, I love her.

Ok, it's over, time for bed. Have a lovely week!

  1. This may seem weird but are your allergies/colds around your period? For years I'd have major sinus infections every month, around that time. Just something to think about.

    1. No, it's not on a routine timetable, it's just frequent. My latest theory is that I'm simply allergic to life.

  2. Your pomchi is super cute, I want one. Also I love your amethyst ring! I pretty much love everything amethyst though, it being my birthstone and all. :)

    1. Thanks! I never was a fan of the Aquarian stone or the color purple, for that matter, but this ring has definitely changed my mind.

Oh, and I highly recommend the company of a pomchi. ;)
