Non-Scale Victories

A pretty little tree on my walk home from work.
Sorry about the accidental blogging hiatus. I've been really busy doing nothing except working and watching Gossip Girl and sometimes working out. You understand. But I'm back! And on a Friday, too! I'm here to share my non-scale victories (and some random pictures of pretty things) since I failed to do so on Wednesday.

In no particular order, here's what's made me feel all warm and tingly in regards to my health/weight/life lately:

A coworker said "Jenny's losing weight."
Okay, so it was a little odd because it wasn't a question so much as a statement and I was standing right there and plus I've lost 25ish pounds so like, duh, where ya been? But, he's a male and they don't tend to notice these things plus he sees me 5/7 days a week, so HUZZAH to someone noticing!

The prettiest of all weeds.
My shirts are saggy and baggy.
I hate baggy clothing SO much, but for once it's a good thing. Despite not moving the scale much lately (before the scale hiatus, anyway- now I have no idea what the number reads), all of the gym time I've been putting in has been doing something good for the bod because I'm constantly throwing shirts in the "too big" pile. I guess muscle really does weigh more than fat. Who knew? (Besides everybody.)

Side note: Despite my shirt size shrinking, my pants are the same size that they were around Christmas. WTF is up with that? Does that happen to anyone else? I feel like I've been waiting forever for these jeans to get baggy and yet they still fit perfectly fine. I love these jeans, so it's cool, but I just don't understand. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Some kind of flowering bush thing in my backyard.
I'm still counting calories.
I sorta fell off the wagon with the daily eats and the calorie count posts, but I am still counting my calories most days. I say most days because I still haven't locked down those damn weekends. March has been particularly difficult because we went home for a party the first weekend and have had visitors every weekend since (and will be welcoming two more tomorrow). I LOVE visitors, don't get me wrong ('cause they really are my favorite weekends), but having visitors means hitting up more restaurants and bars than we normally would (nobody drives down just to hang out in our apartment, ya know) and I am not a very good decision maker when beer and good (aka bad) food is an option.

Cherry blossoms, because I just can't get enough. Sadly, the trees are all green now.
Spring is here!
I usually only like spring for about a week. Once I get over the budding new colors and the warming weather, it's all allergies, bugs, and humidity from then on. But this year I feel much, much differently about this transitional season. I didn't realize while it was happening, but winter put me in a food funk. Vegetables from the grocery store weren't nearly as enticing as vegetables from the farmer's market and more times than I'd like to admit bags of produce went bad before I was inspired to use them. But spring means that the farmer's markets are bustling again and I am beyond excited to get back to a mostly plant-based diet (and the resulting weight loss!).

So, that's it for victories, but I'd say it's a pretty stellar list, eh? I'll be back on Sunday (okay, let's be realistic, it'll probably be Monday) with the Weekend Review!

  1. Everyone loses weight/inches in different ways! My initial losses and gains are always most noticeable in my face, and my clothes really don't get affected for a while unfortunately. It'll happen!

    1. Thanks :) I certainly hope so. I just bought a bathing suit that almost fits perfectly.

  2. I tend to lose weight in my upper half a lot faster than my lower half. I notice that shirts get baggy (around my chest especially) first. Goodbye boobs....
Alright- I'm going to get real. Don't hate me or roll your eyes. Going out to dinner does NOT mean that you have to abandon healthy eating and go crazy with the eating and drinking of calorie-laden things. And don't let others unhealthy choices influence how you think about food during the week. Remember how good those healthy foods make you feel, and how much they help with your progress. And of course- indulge every so often- but in moderation. That means A drink or two, and ONE higher calorie food or meal. Remember that alcohol has a shit ton of empty calories and it equals bad decisions when it comes to food. But really, I think you'll get to the point that you just don't enjoy the fried stuff and artery-clogging foods anymore, once you get in the habit of making healthy choices 7 days a week.
I don't mean to be all preachy, but I've been there- right where you are! And honestly, I just don't miss the junky food at all.
AND- celebrate your victories. Your weight loss so far is awesome!! :) xoxo

  3. Ohhhh, I know. It's not the knowledge that's hard, it's the doing I struggle with. :) I'll lock it down eventually. Maybe even this weekend!
