Today was the first day of the Whole Living Action Plan (aka Cleanse) and, as it is now 8:41 pm at the time of my typing this, I can gleefully tell you that the day was a success. For the first week of the cleanse we are only to eat vegetables, fruits, lentils, nuts, seeds, oils, and spices. The website provides a menu plan to follow each week or you can just go to town making whatever you want within those guidelines. Last year I followed a few recipes but mostly just threw things together (we ate a lot of roasted veggies) and I have a feeling I'll be doing the same this time around.
We started the morning out with a cup of strawberry tea because we still hadn't gone grocery shopping and the apartment was void of all things cleanse-approved, save for a bag of frozen blueberries and a single yam. I might be a whiz in the kitchen, but I'm not that good so we had to make a few purchases before we could eat anything substantial.
We got spinach and mushrooms and cauliflower and broccoli and peppers and frozen fruit and three types of onion and fresh herbs and beets (that was a first for me) and other stuff. I made a list based on the recipes provided and bought everything we didn't already have. Then I got to work on lunch. By this time it was 3 pm and we were both ravenous (the Presidential Inauguration kept us from going to the store sooner), which is the worst way to start off a cleanse. Nothing is quick when you have to dice and chop and saute everything first. I chose a broccoli soup recipe and tried to make things happen as quickly as I could before weakness set in and we were both lunging for a quick fix.
It was okay, but I wouldn't call it "good." Something was off. Meh. We also had roasted Brussel's sprouts because I figured a bowl of pureed broccoli wouldn't fill up our tanks and I was right. A few hours later we were starving again so I got back in the kitchen and whipped up some French lentil salad.
It was...interesting. And then I got a bite with a whole lot of basil and it tasted like black licorice and grossed me out. So this was another meal I did not enjoy. I washed the taste out of my mouth with a cup of cozy chamomile tea for quiet moments (it says that on the box).
And that is all that I'm stuffing in my gullet for the day. I'm actually pret-ty hungry right now but I know I won't starve before my morning smoothie so I'm alright. Good night!
You can always trust what the box of tea says.
ReplyDeleteI read the little tag on my tea bags sometimes and am occasionally surprised by their wisdom.
Also, ick, lentils. No lentils for me. You can have my lentils.
Haha it must be a tea thing, Snapple is always trying to hand out wisdom.
